Small Town Spirits: Chapter 2 (Outlaws)
Tuesday May 12, 2020
Tuesday May 12, 2020
In chapter two of our fictional mini-series, Small Town Spirits, Andie tries to recover from the voice she heard in the attic on her first day of work. She makes some new friends (maybe — she's still not sure about the standoffish but very attractive Emmet) and learns about the town's troubling and macabre history. Could the spirit of a murdered college student be haunting the building just across the square? How will she find out who the voice in the attic belongs to?

The Curse of Rosemary's Baby
Tuesday Apr 28, 2020
Tuesday Apr 28, 2020
Rosemary’s Baby is considered one of the most cursed films of all time. Actor Sidney Blackmer (who played coven leader Roman Castevet) once said on set, “No good will come of all this ‘Hail Satan’ business.” Was the movie actually cursed? Did thinking, writing, speaking, and filming scenes all about the devil invite a dark energy onto the set and into the lives of the people involved? From illness, tension among the crew, and divorce to “accidental” death and grisly murder, it sure seems like it. Join us on Straight-Up Enigmas as we explore the curse of Rosemary’s Baby.

Quarantine Playlist #1: Sleep Paralysis
Tuesday Apr 21, 2020
Tuesday Apr 21, 2020
Welcome to our first quarantine playlist! The idea of this episode was to help relieve some of that boredom you may be feeling while you’re sitting at home in self-isolation. I also wanted to reintroduce some of our earlier episodes, then make some recommendations for other shows that I think would be a good add-on or compliment to ours. For our first playlist, we'll explore a couple of our older episodes on sleep paralysis! Sleep paralysis is a feeling of being conscious but unable to move or speak. One of the more frightening elements of sleep paralysis is seeing dark, shadowy figures floating toward you or hulking in the corner of your bedroom. Science has found a way to explain away the appearance of shadow people during sleep paralysis episodes, but what does it have to say about those who have seen shadow people during their waking hours? In one of our sleep paralysis episodes (featured during our 13 Nights of Halloween mini-series), we hear a short but shocking sleep paralysis experience from Carlie, one of our long-time listeners.

Small Town Spirits: Official Trailer
Tuesday Mar 31, 2020
Tuesday Mar 31, 2020
Believe me — Laurelton, Missouri was not where I’d planned to spend my summer vacation. But, as they usually do, things changed. I found myself living with my aunt, Mara, and working part-time at a women’s clothing boutique on the quaint and picturesque town square. I liked my job — I even made some new friends. The only not-so-great thing was the ghosts. Why was I the only one who could see them? Were they trying to warn me about something? About the dark, mysterious power I could feel radiating from the creepy old Masonic Lodge, orphanage, asylum and winery on the hill?
I’m Jaden, the host of Small Town Spirits. This exclusive content is available through the Straight-Up Enigmas podcast feed. Starting April 14th, find all our spooky tales about the ghosts of Laurelton by searching Straight Up Enigmas on your favorite podcast app.

Announcements: Quarantine Playlists, Featured Promos & Small Town Spirits
Monday Mar 30, 2020
Monday Mar 30, 2020
Hello, enigmatic listeners! I wanted to check in with you all since we’ve had so many changes and announcements lately.
First, I wanted to say thank you so much for supporting our sponsors. It’s been extremely exciting to see our little show get these sponsorship opportunities. I appreciate any effort from you all to show our sponsors that we have engaged listeners (things like using promo codes and downloading apps) -- that being said, I know things are pretty uncertain and chaotic right now. Any little bit of encouragement you send our way makes my day. I love hearing that you’re writing reviews for us on Apple Podcasts or just spreading the word to friends.
Second, I’ve decided to start uploading quarantine playlists to the feed on our off-weeks. I know a lot of us now have a lot more time on our hands, so I’m going to re-release some of our earlier episodes, along with some commentary from me and a list of episodes from other podcasts that I think compliment our content. I’ll also add some of the shows I personally have been listening to lately.
Third, we have so many great shows in the Straight-Up Strange Network! I love the variety in our spooky family, and I really want to share all these amazing podcasts with you. I’ll start uploading trailers and promos from some of the creators in our network every once in a while, just so you can get a taste for their different voices and styles.
Fourth, you may not know this about me, but I love writing. I majored in English, and I miss the creativity that comes from making my own original content. To supplement our regular, non-fiction episodes, I’m going to publish a new fiction series called Small Town Spirits. A trailer and teaser are coming soon, so stay tuned on that!
Again, I appreciate everything you enigmas do to help support our show. Some of you have listened from the very first episode -- our style has changed a lot since then, but I hope we can keep creating creepy content that you all enjoy. Thank you and we’ll see you on April 7th for our next regularly scheduled episode of Straight-Up Enigmas.

Straight-Up Enigmas - Official Trailer
Friday Mar 27, 2020
Friday Mar 27, 2020
Ted Bundy murdered my dad’s friend's sister in 1974 while on his reign of terror in Utah. At least, Bundy admitted to killing her just before his execution, but police were never able to locate her body. That’s the topic of just one episode on Straight-Up Enigmas, a podcast to explore the unexplained. Spine-tingling, supernatural stories, historical mysteries and true criminal cases are all things to expect when you tune in to our show. We discuss the mysterious deaths of the Jamison Family, share terrifying true stories from real people about sleep paralysis and explore Cleopatra’s missing tomb. I’m Jaden McKell, and I’m the host of Straight-Up Enigmas. Our bite-sized, bi-weekly episodes focus on the world’s strangest mysteries -- sacred and sonic geometry, the murder of Karen Silkwood, Turkmenistan’s Door to Hell, the curse of the Omen -- and much more. Listen and subscribe at Apple Podcasts or wherever you find podcasts.
